LIIAR Analysis of The Front Cover of Kerrang Magazine

Kerrang Magazine's genre is heavy metal and rock. So It's not quite the genre which I want my music magazine to be, but it has some bands and artists which I would feature in my magazine. For example on the front cover of this copy, there is the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, and they would come under the indie/rock genre. I am going to do a LIIAR analysis of this copy of Kerrang.

L: The photograph is a close up of the Artist and he is looking straight at the camera and therefore making eye contact with the reader. He is also licking an ice cream which links in with the caption under the main feature headline which says: 'life is sweet', because ice creams are sweet. The artist in the picture is wearing a red t-shirt and red connates danger so perhaps it's to give him a rebelious look. The tattoos you can see on the artists wrists would also add to this rebellious look. For the masthead the word 'Kerrang' is in white with a black background. The font for the masthead is quite a bold font with rough edges and lines going across the writing. I think this is to enthersise  the fact Kerrang is a heavy metal and rock magazine so it's quite rough. The masthead is positioned at the top of the page. However above the masthead it tells you about the free give away which is a c.d and which bands are featured on the c.d, this is called a skyline. This is quite a strange place to put this, because usually they are placed lower down the page. I think the producers of the magazine have done this so that when you look at the title; 'Kerrang' then you immediately notice that they are giving away a free c.d and it might make you want to buy the magazine because you want the freebie.  Also on the left hand third of the front cover it tells you about the free posters you can get, and it shows an example of one of these posters.
I: The publisher for Kerrang Magazine is the Bauer Media Group. The Bauer Media Group are a worldwide company, and they operate in 15 different countries. They are based in Hamburg, Germany.
I: Kerrang informs people about popular rock/metal bands, and it often features interviews and articles with them. The magazine also writes reviews on new albums and tracks. Upcoming bands and artists are also often featured in Kerrang, however it's not one of there prime values unlike NME Magazine. There aren't many rock/ metal magazines and Kerrang is the leader in the market.
A: The target audience for Kerrang Magazine is 15-19 year old's. I think the younger target audience are the reason why Kerrang often give away freebies because it would particularly appeal to the younger audience.
R: Fall Out Boy is the band featured in this copy of Kerrang Magazine. In my opinion they are represented as being quite out there and different. This is shown by the picture on the front cover because it shows the lead singer licking an ice cream, this is a strange picture and therefore shows them to be different. It also says that 'life is sweet' for Fall Out Boy and as the reader you would want to know why this is.
