My Genre and LIIAR Analysis of Front Cover of NME

My selected music genre is going to be  indie/rock. This genre mainly focus' on bands, for example the Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire and Bombay Bicycle Club. However there are also some solo artists which I could feature, like Miles Kane and Florence and the Machine. I would also like to feature a lot of upcoming bands as well, and saying which bands are going to be big in the future.
This copy of NME shows the band The Artic Monkeys. They are a band from the type of genre I would like my magazine to be about. I am going to do a LIIAR analysis of this magazine.

L: The photograph on the front of the magazine, shows all of the band sat on a wall. It is centred in the middle of the page and It is in colour. All of the members are making eye contact with the viewer of the magazine. The effect on the picture gives off, quite a rustic/vintage look to the magazine. The clothes they are wearing also gives off this effect. The masthead of the magazine is in a bold font, and is in red with a white outline. Red is an interesting colour to use because red connates danger, this makes it stand out even more. Perhaps NME used this colour to give  a rebelious look to the bands on there front cover. The main feature headline of this copy of NME is in a gold coloured font. This could be to show that the Arctic Monkeys are the number one band around, and are in first place, therefore why the writing is in gold. The cover lines are at the bottom of the page are in red and white. The artist which is involved is in red and information about this section is in white. This has been done to colour code with the masthead, this gives a nice flow to the magazine.
I: The publisher of NME Magazine is a company called IPC Media. On the web homepage for IPC Media you can find out all the other magazine which they produce. They do a whole range of magazines; from music magazines which aim to a wide audience, to Motor Boats Monthly which obviously aim at a select, slightly smaller audience.IPC Media are a national company because most of their magazines aim at the British public. They produce over 60 iconic brands, this reaches almost two thirds of women in the UK and 42 percent of men in the UK.
I:The name of NME tells us a lot about the ideology of the magazine, it stands for 'New Musical Express'.This implies that NME tells you about new upcoming bands and artists and it gives you it fast; 'express'. The target audience for NME Magazine is mainly men aged 16-24, but some people may  buy it as a one off if they like the particular band/artist featured.
A:  The target audience for NME Magazine is mainly men aged 16-24, but some people may  buy it as a one off if they like the particular band/artist featured. The IPC Media website also tells us that 65% of the readers of NME are males, and 23% of readers are aged 16-24. NME Magazine is obviously aimed at the younger generation rather then the older, this is made obvious by the types of bands that are featured in the magazines.
R: In this copy of NME the main focus is on the fact that NME has spent 24 hours in the studio with the Arctic Monkeys, and they are a changed band. This would attract many readers because they would want to find how the Arctic Monkeys are a changed band. However if NME were doing a section on a not so well know band they may just do a far more simple interview because not many people will know information about them.
